Elena Yordanova, a student at ARC Academy – for games as a hobby and a field of professional development
Elena Yordanova is a Concept Art program at ARC Academy and part of last year’s Preparatory course. For herself, she says that playing video games is her biggest hobby, which feeds her passion for drawing. Learn more about herself and her impressions of the Academy in the interview.
What inspires you and how did you get into the creative field?
Everything. It used to be mostly my favorite artists on social media that I admired, but now I’m starting to find inspiration in other places, like my surroundings and my colleagues who are doing pretty cool stuff. As for how I got into the creative field, I think it was largely a spontaneous decision. I wanted it to be something to do with painting, as that’s what I’ve been doing for the longest time and what I love to do the most.
How did you find ARC Academy and why did you decide to apply?
I was talking to a friend and she told me she was going to study at ARC Academy. After checking out the site, I was hooked. I saw an opportunity for development and fulfillment in my home country, which was perfect for me.
What skills did you acquire in the Preparatory Course and did it help you adapt to the Academy?
I think the course gave me a good overall idea of the working process at the Academy. The mentors were cool and dedicated, the lectures were interesting and I learned new things from them. I also had the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone, which helped me improve my skills.
What are your impressions of the training so far?
Very positive. The teachers are professionals with a lot of valuable experience and knowledge, and they always try to help in any way they can. The tasks are fun and challenge me to improve my skills. I learn new things from the lecturers as well as colleagues and discover all kinds of concepts that way.
How do you dream of developing in the industry?
To be honest, I don’t have an exact idea right now. I’d love to get into character creation, but I still have a lot to learn. I want to focus on developing my skills as an artist and designer as well as trying out new techniques, styles and more.
What advice would you give to someone wondering whether to apply to the Academy?
Sign up! If you don’t feel ready in any way, I still advise you to do it. The academy is a great place to acquire new knowledge and skills.
