On the hunt for Bulgarian talent: Shawn Foust from Fortis Games reveals the secrets of success for ARC Academy students
On January 16, ARC Academy was honored to welcome a special guest speaker – Shawn Foust, CEO of Fortis Games in San Francisco. The event attracted students, faculty and alumni, allowing them to immerse themselves in the game industry world through an exciting lecture.
Experience, Trends and Recommendations
Shawn Foust revealed valuable experiences and trends in the gaming industry, presenting the audience with how Fortis Games successfully operates in this competitive sector. He added that the company is international and works with people from all over the world. In his lecture, he shared his experience in business management and the key role of quickly adapting to technological innovation and the use of artificial intelligence.
Specifically for ARC Academy students, Foust recommended two important books. “Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World,” which explains why generalists have an advantage over specialists in the modern world, and “Thinking, Fast and Slow,” which examines the psychology of decision-making. These recommendations not only complement the lecture but also serve as a starting point for personal development.
Of course, there was no lack of practical advice for career development. Shawn stressed the importance of variety and quality in a portfolio, the need to keep up with new trends, and actively maintaining an ArtStation profile for example, because he says it makes a big impression on people in the industry.
Alumni Succеssful
The event was complemented by the presence of Radoslav Koinov, an alumni student of ARC Academy, who currently works as a UX/UI at Fortis Games, remotely from Bulgaria. He shared with the audience his own professional experience and talked about the challenges he faced, the job interviews and his successful integration into the company’s team. Radoslav pointed out how much the training at ARC Academy helped him to realize in the field, as well as to create useful contacts.
After the lecture, the participants had the opportunity to express their impressions and ask their questions to Shawn Foust and Radoslav Koinov.
