Dilyan Nedelchev – Lecturer in the On-campus Program at ARC Academy – Creating Moving Stories

Meet Dilyan Nedelchev – a lecturer at ARC Academy and talented 2D Artist. He is currently working at EGT Digital, lecturing at ARC Academy and is an active freelance artist in the field of visual novels. He is also a person with a great passion for the visual language and the ways, in which art tells stories.
What projects have you worked on so far?
The projects that I’ve touched are many and varied. I can group them in these categories:
- Work at EGT Digital – where I’ve developed projects for the past year and a half.
- Indie games – like Azure Dawn from Blue Rose Games; Alex’s Solitude, Hope and Journey to the Grave from Violet Horizons; as well as Spell Candle from BottleMonsterInk. This is where I would place the game we developed as a final project at ARC – Chainer.
- Freelance projects – various types of one-time projects
- Books – I lead, write and illustrate on a personal project, named Art of Meow
Each one of these categories has its own magic, but the most important thing is that via them I can tell stories

What advice do you wish you could have received earlier in your career?
There’s nothing more valuable than time! There’s no reason to spend countless hours on pointless games, social media and watching YouTube videos. Nothing stands in the way of fulfilling our own artistic dreams, except ourselves. Instead of playing another game – finish that scene you’ve been thinking about for a week, and go from there.
Is there something that a peer has taught you?
I’ve learned many things from peers. Probably the most important is that in a team environment it’s not important to be right, it’s important that everyone feels comfortable and motivated.

What would you like to share with your students?
Don’t be afraid of failure, a stupid question or an ugly drawing. They do not exist. Failure is a step towards success. The only dumb question is the one that’s never asked. There’s no such thing as an ugly drawing either, only one that hasn’t received enough love and attention.
I would also like to share with them the endless potential of our imagination and the beauty that we’re able to create through it. Only if we dare to follow it, even on the surface, we will be shocked by what is possible
