Ivan-Antonio Grozdev – Game Dev (Advanced)

Ivan-Antonio is a student in the Game Dev Advanced program at ARC Academy. He aspires to advance professionally in the game industry, specifically in the field of Character Concept Art.

He claims that he chose the Academy because its program is unique. The education is based on intensive courses centered on game design, and the teachers are active professionals in their fields.

In the following interview, you can learn how Ivan-Antonio experiments to solve his tasks until he achieves a working solution:

Introduce yourself briefly – how old are you, what do you like to do in your spare time?

I’m 18 years old and my name is Ivan-Antonio. I’m attempting to advance to the professional level of character concept art. In my spare time, I try to assist and advise less experienced artists in online art groups.

What influenced your decision to attend the Academy and work in the gaming industry?

After deciding on the art industry as a professional career path, I began researching various options. My research led me to the conclusion that your portfolio and skills are what matter in this industry. The traditional education programs didn’t seem logical, and after hearing about ARC and looking into its program, the decision was easy to make. The ARC program is only two years long, with courses focused around the game industry and instructors who are active professionals

Have you ever been involved in creative activities before?

No, I haven’t.

What role in the game industry did you choose, and why did you choose this specific one?

Concept artist for characters. The high level of competition is what I enjoy most about concept art. In addition, the quick way of working, the balance of quantity and quality, creativity, and constant feedback. Most people consider the fact that your job is considered cheap and replaceable to be an unpleasant aspect of the profession, but I believe that this gives you freedom. That way, we can experiment and solve problems until we have a result that works.

What do you enjoy most about your education at ARC Academy?

Getting feedback from the teachers is very important, and they are doing an excellent job. They are, in some way, opening our eyes, looking from their experienced perspective, showing us our errorsand how to fix them. Unlike in traditional schools, we can freely make mistakes and learn from them, rather than avoiding them or hiding from the things we are unsure about.

What advice do you have for people considering joining the ARC Academy?

If you do not want to learn, no one can teach you. Art is a long journey, but you have to start somewhere, and there is no better place to start than ARC.

If you want to begin your career in the game industry, you can sign up for our early bird application session for class 2022/2021 until March 31st. Everyone who signs up during this time period will have the opportunity to be a part of the ARC Academy mentors’ program. Students in the mentors’ program will receive tasks and feedback from their mentors. The program will assist them in beginning their education at the Academy with greater confidence and preparedness.
