Students from 51 SU ‘Elisaveta Bagryana’ spent one week at ARC Academy

The first week of the summer vacation of the students from the professional class of 51 SU ‘Elisaveta Bagryana’, led by Boryana Radeva and Luchezar Petrov, started at ARC Academy.

During their visit to the Academy campus, the students got to know some of our students who led lectures in different areas of the game industry such as Concept Art, Game Design, 3D Art and VFX & Animation. Each lecture was accompanied by a practical task at the end, through which the kids could practice what they had learned.

On the first day of the week-long experience, students had the opportunity to participate in an introductory game. At the same time, they were able to meet with our already-graduated student from the Concept Art program, Alexander Petrov, who gave them a lecture on ‘First Steps in Concept Art’. After it was over, they were given a chance to apply their new knowledge by creating a character concept.

Day two started with a lecture on ‘What is Game Design?’ and our student Tony Karidkov, studying this specialty at ARC Academy, divided the students into teams who presented ideas for their own games. Each team had time to present their concept and Tony was very helpful in giving feedback to each of them.

The day did not end there, Yana Petrova, a first-year student in the VFX & Animation program, joined the second part of the lecture. She introduced the attendees to what animation is, sharing interesting facts such as what are the twelve principles of animation according to Disney.

On the third day, Darena Georgieva, a student in the 3D Art program, introduced the students to 3D Art. After the end of the lecture, she demonstrated to them how to work with Blender. Everyone liked the task she had planned, namely the creation of a 3D model of a snowman. On the third day, Darena Georgieva, a student in the 3D Art program, introduced them to ‘What is 3D Art?’. After the end of the lecture, she demonstrated to them how to work with the program ‘Blender’. Everyone liked the task she had planned, namely the creation of a 3D model of a snowman. Darena was able to pay attention to anyone who was struggling, so at the end of the lecture, each computer display showed an image of a cute snowman.

During the last two days of their visit to ARC Academy, the student’s attention was mainly focused on developing a game concept. The attendees were divided into five teams, each tasked with creating a presentation that included: what inspired the idea for the game, the presentation of its plot, the main character and the world he will inhabit, the structure of the levels and the tools that will be used to make it.

The finale was set on Friday when the students presented their final projects to our jury, which was formed by their lecturers during the week. Each team had a certain time to impress the judges.

The jury as well as the ARC Academy team were definitely satisfied with the results of the youngsters. The difference in ratings between the top two places was minimal, but a winning team was still broadcast and rewarded for a job well done.
