Todor Gotchkov, a student at ARC Academy – about the inspiration and the path to the creative field

Todor Gotchkov is a Concept Art student at ARC Academy and a participant in last year’s Preliminary course. About himself, he says that he likes to draw and create his own stories, characters and worlds. He works as a freelancer and illustrates books and board games. Find out what inspired him to go into the creative field and what his impressions of the education are, in the interview.

What inspires you and how did you get into the creative field?

I am inspired both by contemporary artists such as Jakub Rozalski, Marco Bucci and Stefan Koidl, as well as by classical Renaissance artists, but mostly by nature and the world around me. Pursuing a career in the creative industry was a decision that came naturally, based on my interests and what I envision myself doing in the future.

How did you find ARC Academy and why did you decide to apply?

I came across the Academy’s site by accident. After researching many of the faculty and looking at majors, I decided that the Concept Art program would help me reach my professional goals as quickly as possible. Then I realized that I had no time to waste and applied during the Preliminary course.

What skills did you acquire in the Preliminary course and did it help you adapt to the Academy?

The Preliminary course was a big plus for me because I got to know the lecturers and their teaching methods. The online lectures gave me a feel for what the classes would be like during the semester, which led to my quick adjustment at the beginning of the year.

What are your impressions of the education so far?

I have been pleasantly impressed with the education so far. I like that I have the opportunity to be taught by people who have made it in the creative industry, as well as the individual feedback that each student receives on their work.

How do you dream of developing in the industry?

My main goal is to work as a concept artist and illustrator, as well as to participate in the creation of various creative projects.

What advice would you give to someone wondering whether to apply to the Academy?

I advise anyone hesitating to apply as soon as possible. If a person wants to develop their skills and portfolio, as well as realize themselves in the creative industry, ARC Academy is the place to be.
