The competition

At ARC Academy, we help young talents realize their potential. 85% of graduates start their careers in the gaming and creative industries. We work side by side with like-minded people in the face of one of the biggest studios in Bulgaria. Thanks to our partners at Creative Assembly Sofia, we enable motivated and potential but disadvantaged people to study at ARC Academy by providing 3 scholarships for our game programs (Game Design, Concept Art and 3D Art).

Choose one of the three tasks below and prove to us through your motivation, energy, and skills that you deserve to be among the chosen ones.

The prize

Three of you will receive scholarships that cover 30% of the fee for the first year of study in one of the Game Design, Concept Art or 3D Art programs.

The programs

Two-year programs in Game Design, Concept Art or 3D Art prepare young talents for their future careers in the game industry. Led by lecturers from the studios, students go through every aspect of creating a video game.

The story:

At the end of the world, amidst the vast waters of the Mystic Ocean, rises the Magic Island – a world of immense beauty and unknown magic. This heavenly place is shrouded in secrets locked in the old manuscript.

The evil that has slumbered for years in the dark prisons of its fortress rises and threatens the magical balance. The sinister creatures awaken and turn the beautiful island into a dark place.

The task:

Choose one of three tasks depending on which program you are applying for – Concept Art, 3D Art or Game Design.

Concept Art:

Show us how your imagination and conceptual thinking work by drawing how you imagine any of the elements listed above – Mystic Ocean, Magic Island, characters – good and bad, etc.

3D Art:

Introduce us to the main character or environment in the game that you would like to model in 3D. Don’t limit yourself to just illustrations. You can also use clay, stop motion, paper, or whatever you think best represents your idea.

Game Design:

The game can be single-player, multiplayer or cooperative (CO-OP). You are not limited by genre in any way. Your entertainment software can be for mobile platforms, core gaming platforms (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, or PC) and even VR software.

The document we expect should contain the following:

– Summary (maximum ½ page)

– Description of main character and story (maximum ½ page)

– From 2 to 5 game mechanics (maximum ½ page each)

– List of game elements: potential items (items), enemies (evil creatures for example), weapons, etc. (maximum ½ page)

– Example design of a level from the game, including a plan or sketch. If your idea is to be realized in an open environment (open world), describe to us the structure of a specific mission and its terrain features/progress design).

– Basic gameplay structure and how it will evolve over time. (maximum 1 page)
